DJ MAKHAN
PI hooks up with the man behind the strictly bhangra series, dj makhan in an informal msn interview.
PunjabiInkarperated.com: You've been DJing for well over 15 years now, yet people do not recognize you as much as DJ APS or HMD
who have been DJing just as long as you, why do you think that is?
DJ Makhan:Well you have to understand those guys have come a far way and had a lot of support from their communities, whereas I
do not. I only got 25 bux for my first gig, so that tells you where I came up from. I had been djing and mixing for 5 years before my
first cd came out.
PunjabiInkarperated.com: The question on everyone's mind, will there ever be another Strictly Punjabi album?
DJ Makhan:Well I am not sure because of Dj Sunny who is taking a break and I have been doing all my Strictly albums with him. Me and
him have a vibe that made the series what it was.
PunjabiInkarperated.com: Now when you first started mixing did you ever hope to perhaps go mainstream?
DJ Makhan: Not at all It was just something I liked doing, letting people have a taste of my music.
PunjabiInkarperated.com:What are your views on the amateur DJ's that are sort of popping up everywhere now adays?
DJ Makhan:Well I love seeing that mixing is getting more popular now but right now there are many DJ's who have a ide aof what to do and
and others who are just trying to do it for the fame.
Punjabinkarperated.com: which artists/djs do you find inspiring and consider them to be your influences
DJ Makhan: growing up, I was allways listenin to tapes, cuz tapes is what we had back then, of remixers like xzecutives who had the extra hot series and later on djs like bally sagoo influenced me quite a bit.
Punjabinkarperated.com: strictly punjabi 10, their was a bit of controversy with its release, would you care to explain what happened.
DJ Makhan: basically, I got backstabbed by a rival remixing camp. They released an album at the same time everyone was expecting strictly punjabi 10 to come out with the same title, but their own mixes instead of mine. Of course, this hurt my reputation as their work was poor and consisted mostly of old djs from other
djs.
Punjabinkarperated.com: do you have any parting words for Punjabinkarperated members.
DJ Makhan: Keep it real, and keep it bangin, strictly punjabi.
